Favorite Daughters was a LOJ Book Club Pick!

Yesterday was a HUGE day for me because Favorite Daughters was featured on Lori and Julia’s Book Club on My Talk Radio, 107.1.

I was super nervous, because this a beloved radio show throughout the Twin Cities and beyond. In fact, when I’ve Googled the best book club podcasts, the LOJ Book Club often pops up. I spent the day preparing, listening to Lori and Julia’s past interviews, so I would get a sense of the types of questions they might ask. And yeah, two of their more recent interviews were with Lisa Jewell and Ruth Ware. As in, the internationally bestselling authors whom I idolize. And then I began to wonder What The Heck?!! How did I stumble into this opportunity?

Well, Lori and Julia could not have been nicer or friendlier. Even the security guard at the radio station was super cool, asking me if I wanted a photo in front of the Hubbard Broadcasting map, and immediately showing me where the bathroom was. (I have a weak bladder, so that was much appreciated.)

Lori and Julia also immediately agreed to take photos with me, and then they put me at ease by telling me how much they enjoyed Favorite Daughters. They also asked me questions about teaching and about my website, and I was impressed that they’d not only read my book, but had looked me up and read some of my blog posts as well. What classy ladies!

Writing can be a solitary endeavor, and it’s hard to measure success at times. Days like yesterday are rare, even non-existent for a lot of us who are still struggling to break through. But sitting there, being interviewed and hearing them praise and appreciate not just my novel, but also my other efforts, –well, I felt like all my hard work was paying off.

I realize there will still be plenty of ups and downs as I continue to pursue writing and publishing. But I’ll never forget this experience.

Roses my husband presented me with upon my return home, along with my Hubbard Visitor badge, which the security guard offered to le me keep.

Listen to Lori and Julia interview me about Favorite Daughters.
